Rigid surfaces will reflect sound better and seemingly amplify them.

If you really can't find something, the "squishy mesh" stuff that is often sold as shelf liner (and overpriced bottle openers) may also work, though I caution against the colored varieties as they can stick to and/or stain surfaces.

If you want to get really crazy, you could use Dynamat or something similar, but at that point it may be a better option to invest in an enclosure or cabinet to isolate the sound away. I have my 4 Drobos in a Salamander Designs AV cabinet and I can't hear them from where I normally sit unless all 4 have their fans running simultaneously.
