Well, color me surprised. I did try to compile it as optimized as I could (i.e., spending some quality time with ffmpeg's compiling options), but I never thought the FS would be able to transcode anything. I'll update the page with this information as soon as I can.

Hi Ricardo,
Any chance you could recompile this with the 'Mulitple Instance Patch'?

http://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php...http://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=3034326&group_id=243163&at

I dont have a clue how to go about compiling yet.
If you can that would be great.

Thanks
Paul

Please forgive my ignorance, but it seems to me that what I saw on the patch could be easily achieved by copying your current minidlna DroboApp folder to a new name (e.g., copy 'minidlna' to 'minidlna2'), and then edit the configuration file ('minidlna2/etc/minidlna.conf') and change the port and friendly name.

In particular, you would have to change these options:

Before:
db_dir=/mnt/DroboFS/Shares/DroboApps/minidlna/var/cache/minidlna
log_dir=/mnt/DroboFS/Shares/DroboApps/minidlna/var/log
port=8200
friendly_name=DroboFS DLNA Server

After:
db_dir=/mnt/DroboFS/Shares/DroboApps/minidlna2/var/cache/minidlna
log_dir=/mnt/DroboFS/Shares/DroboApps/minidlna2/var/log
port=8201
friendly_name=DroboFS DLNA Server 2

I say this because the patch simply adds an UUID option that only changes the folder where the minidlna files are stored. In the case on minidlna for the FS, the instance is fully contained to the folder, so in theory it is already "multi-instance" enabled.

Wouldn't that be a better option, since you could then start and stop the instances separately?

RE: DroboApp HOWTO: minidlna 1.0.19
I beleive you have to have the UUID switch otherwise both instances try and use the same UUID so devices will only see one instance (I dont think the other one will even run).

But the other changes still need to be made so that they use different conf, db and log files.

I have tried using the UUID switch but it doesnt work with the current one on your site.

Thanks
Paul

Sorry, that is not what the patch does. Before the patch there is no UUID being used anywhere (EDIT: I dug a bit deeper, and there seems to be an UUID being generated from the mac address in the normal code). Here is exactly where the patch introduces the UUID:

Code:
+    /* Change db path to reflect UUID */
+    strcat(db_path, uuidvalue);

That is it. All the other references on the patch only relate to handling the option itself. Therefore, it seems to me that making a second copy will work just fine.

The only 'ID' on minidlna is the 'serial' option on the minidlna.conf, so you might need to change that as well. Otherwise, I see no need for the patch.

That is expected, since I have not updated it with the patch. Sorry, but so far I haven't seen a good reason to.

Have you tried my suggestion? Is it not working?

RE: DroboApp HOWTO: minidlna 1.0.19
I had tried having a second folder but it wasnt working.

I thought it might have been my fault for fiddling with the service.sh file. So put it back to default and I can still only get one running at a time.

They both run seperately but then when I try and run the second one I get the following:
Code:
[2011/08/12 16:05:57] minidlna.c:809: error: MiniDLNA is already running. EXITING.
and the Process doesnt show when I look at TOP or PS.

I have different settings for the following in each of the conf files:
Port
Friendly Name
DB_DIR
LOG_DIR
SERIAL

Thanks
Paul

RE: DroboApp HOWTO: minidlna 1.0.19
Hmm, this might be a different problem than UUIDs. It could be related to the pidfile created by minidlna. Unfortunately it'll be complicated for me to have a look this weekend, but you could try to make sure that the two instances are not using the same pidfile (see service.sh for the location).

Question RE: DroboApp HOWTO: minidlna 1.0.19
Hello,

Thank you in advance for any help that you may be able to provide.

I recently acquired a Drobo-FS from a colleague, he was moving up to something faster. Anyways, I have two xbox 360s that I have been trying to configure to use with the Drobo-FS. I have been successful in installing minidlna, apache and dropbear as well as initializing the DroboApps. I have been quite unsuccessful in configuring either of my xbox's to see the Drobo share though.

Another quick point is that I am quite the newbie when it comes to ssh. I have finally installed COPSSH and, by entering the following:

$ ssh root@192.168.100.111

I believe I have been able to log on to the Drobo Share. From that point on I am lost and any help would be appreciated.
I have set up a share in the Public Directory caled DroBoMoVies but I cannot seem to access it from anywhere.

Any commands that I have found in this forum or online do not seem to work. I am at a lost and about to give up and any help would be appreciated. I am not sure why this has worked so easily for so many others and it does not seem to be working for me.

Again, any help would be appreciated.

Thank you.

Hi Ricardo,

Thank you for the link but unfortunately, in my searches, I did come across this page and I made the appropriate changes and I still cannot see the Drobo share from my xbox. I manually changed /etc/minidlns.conf file to the following

# default presentation url is http address on port 80
presentation_url=http://192.168.100.111:8200/

As a side note, I am running Windows 7 Professional on my computer at home. As well, I am able to access my media files that are shared from a Windows Computer by accessing the Video Files. I can see all computers but not the Drobo share.

Eric
