remote Power-ON
Is there any way to remote-power-on a Drobo 5D? I can remote access the Mac, my Drobo is attached to. Turning off the Drobo via dashboard app is no problem. Alas, it is fatal, since there seem to be no way to remotely turn it back on again.
It is connected to a smart power circuit, so I can even turn the power off an on again. Do I have to build a robot that presses the on button to turn it back on?
Is there maybe a simpler solution available?

RE: remote Power-ON
hi im not aware of a wake on lan (or similar) feature yet, but there were some past topics on this for example here:

more recently though, i saw a type of usb-cable device, which essentially acted like a physical power button but i think it was just to simulate a usb cable being unplugged, and reconnected, rather than physically being unplugged and reconnected.

these things are appearing more often now, with some devices auto powering off a home router, so that if it does not detect access to the internet again, it then simply powercycles the unit, and essentially restores internet connection. (it is probably just a matter of time before there is an app, that can control things a bit more.)

(btw i have XP home SP2, a Drobo v1 with 2x 1TB/2x 1.5TB WD greens, & a bkp Drobo v2 with the same + a DroboShare: unused)
& a DroboS v2 with 3xWD15EADS &2x1TB in DDR mode on win7, & a drobo5D (all usb)
  • btw i did a sustained (write) operation for about 6 hours, and got 13.2MB / sec ...objection? "sustained" :)
    (16.7MB/s on a v2 & 47-96MB/s drobo-s)
