RE: Does Drobo 2nd Gen support 6TB drives?
cool spiney

(btw i have XP home SP2, a Drobo v1 with 2x 1TB/2x 1.5TB WD greens, & a bkp Drobo v2 with the same + a DroboShare: unused)
& a DroboS v2 with 3xWD15EADS &2x1TB in DDR mode on win7, & a drobo5D (all usb)
  • btw i did a sustained (write) operation for about 6 hours, and got 13.2MB / sec ...objection? "sustained" :)
    (16.7MB/s on a v2 & 47-96MB/s drobo-s)

RE: Does Drobo 2nd Gen support 6TB drives?
It's great to see that 5TB drives work well in Drobo 2nd Gen.

What about 6TB, and ultimately, the WD Red 8TB? Anyone?

I'm currently running 6TB drives in mine, and another user here is running 8TB drives.

Drobo (Gen2)
Drobo 5N

Wow, really? Is there a user running 8TB drives in a 2nd Gen?
Could you link the post where this is shown?

Giving that max storage capacity of 2nd Gen Drobo is 16TB, what would happen with a 4x8TB array?
Do you have 4x6TB?

If you have space beyond the original 16 TB volume limit, Drobo will simply generate another 16 TB volume, so your OS will see two volumes instead of one.

This is where I found about the info from EZA...

RE: Does Drobo 2nd Gen support 6TB drives?
That means that storage capacity of a Gen2 Drobo would go well beyond 16TB. I know, splitted in two independent volumes. But at the end, you could potentially go with a 4x8TB array in a Gen2 and store data that exceeds 16TB.
