RE: Pre-ordered Drobo 5D
Well, now my pre-order on Amazon.com says, " Delivery Estimate: Monday December 17, 2012 - Wednesday December 19, 2012." Wow! I'm not sure what to think at this point...

RE: MY ORDER SHIPPED!
My Order has shipped! (I still can't believe it)

Yesterday afternoon I cancelled my order on Amazon.com and ordered through the Drobo Store (shipping speed = 'next day afternoon'), received the confirmation 10 minutes later. Low and behold, this morning I received the email stating my order shipped, with FedEx tracking number to prove it. Looks set to be delivered by Monday afternoon. This order is costing me exactly $209.69 more than ordering through Amazon.com, but I'm totally fine with that.

Has anyone else received theirs yet?

My freight forwarder's flight was delayed, should have the unit tomorrow. I'll post my impressions and some transfer speeds after I get it set up.

Received!!
I brought it home and set it up during my lunch hour: installed 128GB mSATA and 5x4TB Hitachi drives in about 1 minute (no tools required). Connected via Thunderbolt to my iMac. Turned it on, (downloaded the Drobo Dashboard from Drobo.com) and formatted the drives in about a minute. I end up with 14.49TB of useable space.
I left it synching the contents of my Synology unit, as I plan on both of these units being always synched with each other. I will post again and provide some transfer speeds as soon as possible.

RE: Pre-ordered Drobo 5D
Ok, so I did some quick transfers to test the speed:

From iMac internal SSD Drive to Drobo:
4GB in 20 seconds (200MB/sec)
11.8gb in 62 seconds (190MB/sec)

From iMac internal 1TB hard drive to Drobo
785MB in 7 seconds (112MB/sec)
2GB in 18 seconds (111MB/sec)

From Drobo to SSD
7GB in 27 seconds (222MB/sec)
1.15GB in 5 seconds (230MB/sec)

and From Drobo to internal 1TB
1.15GB in 10 seconds (115MB/sec)
3.2GB in 27 seconds (118MB/sec)

Other Thoughts: The unit is very quiet (my Synology DS1512+ is loud in comparison). The physical look and feel of the unit is certainly top quality. Very pleased with it.

If anyone wants me to do any other type of test, just let me know and I'll be happy to.
Kenny
