RE: Time Machine and FS
At this time no, no need to run dashboard 1.7.X if you are using a 1st gen drobo.

RE: Time Machine and FS
The ability to set a maximum size for Time Machine can't be added to Drobo S or the Drobo 2nd gen. To Mac OS X the Drobo FS looks like a file sharing server communicating using the AFP protocol. The other Drobos look to Mac OS X as large disk drives, the specific size being the one set in Drobo Dashboard when the Drobo was first formatted. Its because the Drobo FS communicates and looks like a server that Data Robotic's engineers were able to enhance it to control how much space is used by Time Machine.

RE: Time Machine and FS
What about DroboShare? Or is BackMyFruitUp "good enough"? Our Office came into a Drobo V1 recently, and even though I love my Drobo v2 and FS, it's kinda junky and I'm always looking for ways to improve TM usage with it.

RE: Time Machine and FS
I'm running 1.0.3 firmware on my FS (and 1.7.1 of Dashboard) but I still don't understand how to set a share size limit for TimeMachine. What am I missing here? I can't find any documentation on it either. Sad

RE: Time Machine and FS
Unfortunately, with a V1 drobo, I gave up on the idea of having Time Machine back up to it (wirelessly, connected via USB to an AEBS) ... I have CrashPlan to backup off-site. So I'm using that same software, to specify two concurrent backup locations, and backing up to the Drobo that way. Hopefully this helps someone!

If/when there's a price drop on the Drobo FS (w/no drives) ... I'll pick one of those up. $700 for no drives is a bit high.

RE: Time Machine and FS
"backmyfruitup" is good with a droboshare.

@scottjl, what Mac OS are you running?

RE: Time Machine and FS
Hi Jennifer:

I'm not Scott, but I have the same question that he has. I'm running Mac OS X 10.6.3.

I don't see any way (currently) to use Time Machine with my Drobo FS. I'm also running Drobo Dashboard 1.7.1 with Drobo FS firmware version 1.0.3.

All of the announcements have me (as well) confused, so you can please just share whether the Time Machine support has been released (or not) for folks with the configuration that I've noted above?

Sincerely,

Weathertop

Please read the first post to this thread.

Time Machine will be enabled in the latest release of Dashboard which should be released shortly, unfortunately I cannot give a time frame at this time.

I don't think they should have released a press release as if to make it sound like its out for public availability if they have not ETA on the actual release.

RE: Time Machine and FS
I wish I could tell my mortgage company that I am going to pay them and they would understand just like all of us that that does not mean this year.

Where does one sent comments to Drobo about how badly they seem to word their "what the drobo will do" as opposed to "what we are planning on it doing if we can work it out"?
